On April 12, 2018, the second “ZhongYin Lecture Hall” was hosted in Beijing. Zhou Junli, a Member of the Management Committee and a Senior Partner of ZhongYin, shared his experience in practice on the subject “The Art of Criminal Defense——Rules for Handling Criminal Cases”. More than 50 people, including Li Ju, the Chairman of the Management Committee and a Senior Partner, Zhang Xiaojun, a Member of Management Committee and a Senior Partner, the Senior Partner Sun Jian, other Partners including Ai Jing, Hou Jiyan, Yue Qu, Lv Yanchang, Sun Yanqing, Yuan Xinjian, and Zhou Cunjun, as well as some of the associates who were in the firm then, participated in the second lecture.

Zhou Junli worked in the Beijing Municipal Prosecution Office for 7 years and served as Beijing Chief Prosecutor. He is currently a member of the Beijing Criminal Litigation Committee and was once rated as one of the “100 Best Criminal Defense Lawyer in Beijing”. Zhou Junli has more than 10 years of experience in criminal defense. He has defended in criminal cases such as Senhao apartment fraud case, Changzhou smuggling case, and a tax related case involving a tax accountant agency in Weihai, Shandong. These cases caused strong social repercussions, and in more than a dozen of them, the defendant was found not guilty or was not prosecuted. In this lecture, Zhou Junli, by starting from his many years of experience in criminal defense, demonstrating the scene of criminal defense through video, and combining the actual cases, vividly explained the basic qualification requirements for lawyers engaging in criminal defense practice, interpreted the Rules for Handling Criminal Cases, and elaborated other issues. Zhou Junli said that it means a lot for the defendant for lawyers to defend in criminal cases, but lawyers should not cross the line. Since criminal defense is related to the life and freedom of the client, as criminal defense lawyers, we must maintain a highly careful and responsible attitude and endeavor himself with all his expertise to the defense, to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the client, and safeguard judicial justice.
