ZhongYin Successfully Holds an International Practice Exchange Meeting with SCLA

On August 2, 2021, ZhongYin Law Firm invited the Swiss Chinese Law Association ("SCLA") to an international practice exchange meeting at its head office in Beijing. The following guests participated in the exchange meeting: Mr. Zhang Tianze, Director of SCLA, Jiang Jiaxi, Senior Partner of Jurisino Law Group, Managing Partner Harvey Yan, Partner Hou Shiling and Internal Partner Li Shitao of ZhongYin Law Firm, and peers from ZhongLun Law Firm, W & H Law Firm, and ZhongDun Law Office.

Mr. Zhang Tianze, Director of SCLA, first thanked the International Practice Department of ZhongYin Law Firm for the invitation. Next, he introduced the development history of SCLA and shared some of his insights obtained in the process of from practicing as a Chinese lawyer, to joining a UN agency, and to participating in the establishment of an international lawyer’s association.

Swiss Chinese Law Association (referred to as "SCLA"), founded in 2019 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is an international lawyer’s association. The association strengthens legal understanding and cooperation between Europe and China by promoting exchanges between lawyers, scholars, public and private sectors, in main service areas including international investment, dispute resolution, M&A and reorganization, public policies and relations between international organizations, etc. SCLA has applied for the Membership of Working Groups I and III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the observer status at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). SCLA has established long-term friendly and cooperative relations with the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Olympic Committee, the Court of Arbitration of the Zurich Chamber of Commerce, the German Federal Bar (Die Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer) and such other organizations. It has signed a memorandum of cooperation with 15 intergovernmental, non-governmental, and regional international organizations around the world, including the International Intellectual Property Commercialization Council (IIPCC), the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the European Association of Data Protection Professionals (EADPP), the LEX Africa, etc. Up to now, experts and elites from more than 20 countries and regions have joined the association, which now has 217 members.

This exchange meeting focused on the theme "The conflict between the locality of legal services and the trend of global market integration", and the participants shared views on and discussed about issues such as "Is there any essential difference between the legal service industry and other service industries?", "Is the locality of legal services means a limitation or an opportunity?", "What is internationalization? How to be truly internationalized?", and "How to understand different legal cultures?". The atmosphere of the meeting was active. A total of dozens of lawyers from ZhongYin head and branch offices participated in this exchange offline or online, and lawyer friends and business consultants from different countries such as Germany and France participated in this exchange online.
